USE OF RBD PEANUT OIL
Scientists have isolated the several allergens found in peanuts that cause allergic reactions. All these peanut allergens have proven to be proteins. All of our oils are refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD), including peanut oil. Oils that go through this process do not contain detectable levels of protein. RBD peanut oil is therefore a highly unlikely source of danger to peanut sensitive individuals. All clinical trials of peanut sensitive patients that were administered controlled amounts of RBD peanut oil have not manifested any type of allergic symptoms during the course of these challenge studies. People allergic to peanuts are allergic to the protein. Our process removes the protein.
Since our Kettle Classic line of potato chips are fried in only pure (RBD) peanut oil and made on a dedicated line, we believe this product should not represent a danger to peanut sensitive individuals. And the plant where Kettle Classics are produced is 2 miles away from our pretzel plant, which does not have peanuts or tree nuts in the facility. Nevertheless, the final decision and responsibility to consume products containing peanut oil shall remain with you and your allergist.
The following is a list of product categories that would be free of any type of peanut protein:
- All of our cottonseed oil fried potato chips
- All Kettle Classic Chips
- Grandma Utz Kettle Potato Chips
- All of our tortilla and corn chips both unflavored and flavored
- All of our popcorn products
- All of our baked cheese curls, fried cheese curls, baked cheese balls
- All of our pretzel products
Please continue to carefully read the ingredient statements on food labels. Food safety is a high priority for us. We strive for full ingredient disclosure on all our food product packages, including the presence of all the major food allergens.
